Cristóbal Ochoa , born 1986 in Caracas, Venezuela, is an interdisciplinary artist who has lived and worked between Paris and Madrid since 2017.
Although he was primarily trained as a sculptor, his practice encompasses a wide variety of mediums: sculpture, painting, paper, photography, performance, video art, and installation.
His work explores the unusual and often overlooked aspects of everyday life, with a deep interest in human behavior in all its facets. Themes such as memory, exile, and communication are recurring throughout his practice, whether through subtle critiques infused with humor and irony, or through a raw candor that often draws upon personal experiences.
He was raised in a context marked by geometric abstraction and formal art, he also found inspiration in conceptual art and mixed media. His native country, Venezuela, known both for its extraordinary beauty and its high levels of insecurity, has left an indelible mark on his life and work. As both a victim and witness of numerous violent events, Ochoa succeeds in merging these dualities.
Throughout his career, he has been exhibited in various countries including England, France, Colombia, the United States, China, and South Korea, as well as Spain. He has received several awards, both in Venezuela and internationally, and his works are part of important public and private collections.
