AMERICA
Magdalena´s show is consisting of photographic art works and a newly remixed video installation.
Poetically beautiful and visually relevant about identity and endurance:
“I always tend to look forward once each project is completed. I pour all my energy into a new place to travel, to live with the people, to learn about their way of life and customs, to discover worlds unknown to me. When Mattias Tönnheim offered me the chance to display a selection of photographs and videos on the walls of his gallery, including some he had previously shown a fondness for, I realized that most of them referred to projects I completed in Latin America. Thus, I felt the need to pay a small tribute to the continent where I was born and where I have developed four of my works: La Rinconada, a mine in Ananea, Peru; the Wayúu tribes in the Colombian Guajira; the trip to the Atacama Desert in the north of my country; Chile; and the women of the Mezquital Valley region of Mexico. Revisiting them, I discover that an almost or semi-surreal atmosphere unites them all. I remember that the air I breathed was always charged with fantasy,
with unlikely situations, with surprising characters, with rawness and beauty at the same time, with acceptance of the conditions in which they had to live, with gratitude to a higher power, whatever it may be, with wit, with good humor, and it made me feel happy to be part of that way of understanding life.” Magdalena Correa, May 2025.
